Joe Volpe – Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer noted the irony in the prime minister leading a march against the inaction of his own government. Greta Thunberg, the “Joan of Arc of the climate change movement,” accused Justin Trudeau of not doing enough in government. Meanwhile, whoever is orchestrating the election campaign in Quebec appears determined to soil the party’s laundry by offending its traditional supporters: youth, women, and the ethnic vote.
In Saint-Léonard—Saint-Michel, their preferred candidate Imam Hassan Guillet was dumped unceremoniously. The Arab, Muslim community cannot have seen this development in a good light, especially when another Middle Eastern candidate, Eva Nassif, was denied her candidacy for obscure reasons. All this, says Joe Volpe, while the openly anti-immigrant Premier Legault and xenophobic Bloc Québécois take Francophone voters away from the Liberal fold and from Trudeau personally.
